Programme Coach Discussion Group Module (Developing Youth Participation)

This module aims to promote learning, self-reflection and peer review around youth participation in archery. Expected time to complete will be 6-8 hours of self-directed study, followed by 1 hour+ of online peer discussion in a small group, moderated by a senior coach. This should lead to you developing your own action plan. The booking time here refers to the online discussion element.

There are lots of great resources available for coaches in this area. This is a good start point. Explore and reflect on each of the 10 pledges, and where your own coaching and coaching environment is relative to these. The pledge is revisited in chapter1 of course 1 below, but we suggest starting here before going on.

There are 5 different courses available to choose from. For example, if you haven’t worked much with youth sport before, you might want to consider course 1 (if you do, you don’t need to do chapter 6, as this is covered by your safeguarding course). Or if you are focused on performance, you might prefer to do course 5. You can do any course by clicking through the chapter downloads which can be found at the bottom of each individual course page.

You’ll find reflection and practical exercises within each chapter to do.

Join a reflection session with other Program Coach candidates

Once you have completed a course, you can join a zoom call of around an hour with other candidates who have done the same, moderated by another coach. 

Co-Create your own Development Plan

This could be done with your mentor. It might be to complete another course of icoachkids, coordinate with another club who has an active juniors section, and/or plan how your club (or county) will develop opportunities further.
