Volunteer for national competitions and events

Volunteers are the beating heart of any event organised by Archery GB, and we would be nowhere without the passion and energy they put in every single time, come rain or shine.

As much as we love to welcome those who are already involved in archery as volunteers, you do not need to have any experience of the sport to get involved. We have a great team of experienced volunteers that will show you the ropes and share their knowledge, so you will be in safe hands!

Volunteering for Archery GB at national competitions and events is a great way to:

  • Deepen your interest and enthusiasm for being involved in sport
  • Give back to archery
  • Gain experience in event delivery
  • Stay active
  • Improve your self-confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills
  • Meet like-minded people and make friends for life

As a member of the Field of Play (FoP) team, you will work closely with your FoP Leader to ensure that the event venue is ready for the competition. This will include ensuring that the targets are positioned correctly, setting out marquees, dressing up the venue with Archery GB branding, putting up target faces, and ongoing maintenance during the competition. Occasionally you might be asked to marshal the blue badge parking.

Media team

In the media role, you will work closely with the Event Director and the Venue Manager to ensure that Archery GB social media channels are kept up to date during the competition days. This might include but is not limited to setting up the media zone before the competition, taking photographs and videos during the competition, and interviewing athletes during the day and after the medal ceremonies.

Arrow runners

When our events include head-to-head matches on the finals field, archers do not collect their arrows from the targets themselves. We use arrow runners to collect the arrows from the targets and deliver them back to the athletes or their coaches on the shooting line. Depending on the length of the session, this role can involve a lot of walking, but we always ensure that our arrow runners are given breaks as often as possible.

Agents

At some events we have archers who have to stay on the shooting line and are unable to score and collect their arrows. We then ask our volunteers to act as agents and do that for them. Agents are always a big part of the volunteer team at our Disability Championships, but we need agents at other events too. This role involves a lot of walking, but there are regular opportunities for breaks.
