Clubs invited to take part in #ClubsInCrisis competition for a chance to win £5,000

Made By Sport is launching a #ClubsInCrisis competition to create a platform for clubs to share their stories and help continue to raise awareness of the massive social value of our local sports clubs and organisations.

The charity, Made by Sport, wants to hear from clubs about the service they provide on a social level, detailed below, in order to highlight their importance and the need for critical funding. Clubs nationwide are invited to share their story by uploading short videos through the #ClubsInCrisis competition link for a chance to win £5,000 for their club.

Made by Sport estimates that there are more then 150,000 grassroots clubs and organisations that provide an essential outlet for young people to not only be physically active, but also play a vital role in tackling societal issues such as youth employment, crime reduction, mental health and developing key life skills.

Research revealed that over 40% of these clubs were either in deficit or just breaking even before the pandemic, with many operating on less than £10,000 per year and half led by volunteers. Today an estimated 25% of community clubs may not be able to open their doors again. The social impact of this problem is exacerbated by the fact that over half of the clubs most at risk are in the most deprived areas of the UK. We can't let this happen.

Made By Sport wants to hear your club's story, to help to continue raising awareness of the massive social value our local sports clubs and organisations deliver. By sharing stories of what's happened to clubs during lockdown on social media under the hashtag #ClubsInCrisis, clubs can be in with a chance of winning £5,000 worth of financial support from Made By Sport.

How to enter the #ClubsInCrisis competition

STEP 1: Record a 1-2 minute video explaining:

  • What your club does
  • How it addresses key social issues such as developing life skills, improving mental health, reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, developing employability skills and building stronger communities
  • How its closure could impact you and the community and how the #ClubsInCrisis funding will make a difference

STEP 2: Post your video on your social media using the hastag #ClubsInCrisis

STEP 3: Complete your entry on our website with your social link at www.madebysport.com/clubsincrisis

The competition is open now and will run until 10 December 2020 and will be judged by members of the Made By Sport board. Winners will be contacted by the end of December 2020.

Support is growing for the #SaveOurSports campaign, and if you haven't already done so, now's a great time to sign the Sports Recovery Fund petition. We need to come together to #SaveOurSports and keep our #ClubsInCrisis open!
