Jodie Grinham is the 2024 Paralympic bronze medallist

Jodie Grinham takes Paralympic bronze medal for the Compound Open Women.

Fourth ranked Jodie Grinham narrowly missed out on a spot in the gold final after losing her semi-final match to the new world record holder, Oznur Cure Girdi from Türkiye, 145-143.

Phoebe Paterson Pine faced the 21-year-old Iranian archery, Fatemeh Hemmati, in the semi-final. The Brit put up a fight, shooting a 143, however her opponant took the win while also scoring a new Paralympic match record in the process.

This meant that the bronze match was an all GB show down: Paterson Pine versus Jodie Grinham. The first two ends, the woman matched each other arrow for arrow, going into the third end on 56 points apiece. The tension continued in the third end with Phoebe shooting a perfect 30 to take the lead by two points. This advantage continued for Phoebe, seeing Jodie two points down before the final three arrows. Jodie finished the match with a 29, ending with an X, and it all came down to Phoebe. A ten from her would've secured her the win, however, in a heart-racing moment, she shot an eight. Jodie Grinham took the bronze medal with 142-141, claiming her very first individual Paralympic medal.

Paralympic bronze medallist, Jodie Grinham, said: "I'm really proud of myself. I've had difficulties, it's not been easy. As long as I'm healthy and baby's healthy we can compete. I knew that I'd shot as well as I could, baby or not, I could bring a medal back, and that's what I've done."

It's been an honour to know that the baby is there, and a reminder of the little support bubble that I've got in my belly. I wouldn't change it for the world."

On her result today, Phoebe told us: "I feel like I've kind of let myself down a little bit just with how I handled the situation. But I can't be angry with a fourth place at a Paralympic Games. So I'm disappointed, but I know I can rebuild and go back and think about what happened, and I can hopefully produce some better performances in the future."

Talking about her teammate Jodie, Phoebe said: "I'm so proud of her. She's defied so many odds and has been able to come out and produce a performance that's just incredible, especially with the fact that she's got bubba on the way."

Tune in tomorrow from 15:55 pm UK time to watch Nathan Macqueen take to the finals stage in the 1/8 round.
