A Nottinghamshire archery club is a shining example of how local media can help boost membership.
Ever proactive in promoting the Notts club, Newark Castle Archers' Chair Mandie Elson sent her local paper an article to try and attract new members. The article aims to reassure existing members who are still worried about returning to the club for Covid safety reasons, as well as encouraging participation from new members.
Mandie, pictured above, said: Â"In 24 hours after the article was published, I received six enquiries about our club and I'm on fire about the nationwide Big Reopening archery club event (7-9 May), along with planned taster sessions and beginners' courses. The idea to get in touch with the paper was inspired by Archery GB's various training webinars and hearing what has worked well from other experienced clubs. Enquiries are still coming in from new people which is fab, and we will be running a beginners' course and a few separate Covid-safe taster sessions to accommodate the interest.”
Newark Castle Archers is primarily using the sport's official Big Reopening club event as an opportunity for members who have not yet returned to the range to see how safely the club operates under Covid measures. Mandie said: Â"We're also planning to have socially-distanced picnics as part of the event, and are really looking forward to welcoming new people to an invited taster session on 9 May.”
