Debut Olympian, Megan Havers, talks us through her Games experience so far.
On Thursday 25, the archers shot their qualification round. Today, the women’s team was unfortunately knocked out of the competition by the trio from Germany, 6-0.
Tomorrow morning at 8:53am, the GB men’s team will shoot their first elimination round. Throughout the rest of the week GB will take part in the individual head-to-heads, starting with the women from 5:24pm on Wednesday 31 July.
Youngest member of Team GB's archery squad, Megan Havers, talks us through what the Games in Paris has been like thus far. The sixteen-year-old student from Leicester made her mark on the GB Olympic squad this year, helping the women's team earn their Olympic quota spot, alongside teammates Bryony Pitman and Penny Healey at the Final Quota Tournament in Türkiye in June.
Megan said: "I think stepping out onto that finals field was like no other experience I've had, seeing 8,000 eyes on me shooting was absolutely out of this world and I've never actually experienced this before. So this is like, first experience, first team, first Olympic finals field as well, so a lot of firsts for me. Definitely scary. Scary, but controllable.
"I had quite good practice days leading up to it, so I was feeling quite confident in myself. But I just kind of got out there and I realised 8,000 people were looking at me, and I was trying to figure out where to aim, and I got a bit tense in myself, but it's still an amazing experience, and I've learned a lot from it."
"I've loved it so far, being in a village with the best athletes in the whole world and I'm included in that. It's just amazing. I feel like this is where I belong. I definitely want to be here at more Olympics. But yeah, now I know what to expect."
"That was like the best ever. We're literally on a boat, in raincoats because it was pouring it down. But then everyone's celebrating GB, that was a surreal experience, waving their flags. I really enjoyed it."
"My arrows started a bit low and right, so I definitely know now to crank my sight down and aim left when I first shoot. Also, I now know what 8,000 people looking at me feels like, so now I don't have to focus on that in my individuals. I can focus on myself shooting."
