Paris 2024: Nathan Macqueen places seventh

Nathan Macqueen finishes in seventh place after losing tight quarter final match against Paralympic Champion Stutzman.

After winning his 1/16 round on 30 August with four points to spare, Nathan moved into the 1/8 match today against Hadi Nori from Iran. The two men matched each other arrow for arrow, end by end, going into the final three shots at 111 apiece. Nathan put down a 29 to his opponent's 28 to take the win by a single point, 140-139.

Next was the quarter finals, and this proved to be a real showdown: Nathan versus Matt Stutzman aka the "Armless Archer". Nathan was trailing four points behind the American after the first four ends, 116-112. However, the Brit persevered and closed the gap between himself and Stutzman, only losing by one point in the end, 143-142. Stutzman then went on to become the 2024 Paralympic champion, scoring a new Paralympic record in the process with a 149.

Nathan told us: "I've shot against him [Stutzman], but I've never shot against him in this kind of setting. He gets the crowd on side, it was noisy. I thought I was shooting against a Frenchman for a while."

"I'm happy, which is weird because I've just been knocked out, but I'm happy. I'm going to go into tomorrow with confidence."

Tomorrow from 16:50 pm UK time, Nathan and his mixed team partner, Jodie Grinham, will take to the finals stage for the last time this tournament.
