Start Archery Week will take place 14-22 May 2022, a nationwide celebration of all things archery. In the second of our weekly club stories about the event, Perth Archery Club share what made theirs a success last year.
If you're hoping to help your club organise Start Archery Week in May, and are not sure where to start, look out for these best practice case studies every Tuesday, right up until Start Archery Week begins.
Perth Archery Club celebrated Start Archery Week at the club's Doo'cot Park outdoor venue. The club advertised the event through their website and local media, inviting people to book in advance online.
In keeping with the Covid guidance at the time, the club carefully planned safety measures. These included a one-way system along with good signage, sanitising stations, and track and trace sign-in. They also ensured the correct number of individuals on each target, set aside time for wiping down equipment between bookings, and ensured facemasks were worn by all.
Despite the extra challenges of organising a large event during the pandemic, Perth Archery Club was rewarded by a very healthy turnout. More than 100 participants signed up and attended, and everyone seemed to enjoy the experience.
The club's volunteers who had offered to help out at the event were extremely encouraging and helpful to the participants. People of various ages and experience attended. All were advised of the upcoming beginners' courses and how to book a place online. Volunteers worked on a rota to allow them to also enjoy some shooting time themselves.
