Today (27 April), Activity Alliance, the charity that helps disabled people lead more active lifestyles, is sharing its top ideas for adapting physical activities to help more people stay in and work out under Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.
While social distancing continues, many people are finding new ways to enjoy being active in or near home. This includes adapting activities so everyone in the household, disabled and non-disabled, can take part together. With a few simple tweaks, activities can quickly become a part of everyone's daily routine.
Activity Alliance has released six new STEP (Space, Task, Equipment and People) graphics which illustrate how disabled people, organisations and providers, can apply the STEP tool to sports and activities.
The STEP tool is one of the most effective solutions to help you reap health benefits from ordinary household items - providing ideas for maximising your lockdown space; ways to put handy items, such as wastepaper bins, to use and introduce cupboard staples, like food tins, into your daily exercise; and illustrates how to moderate the activity to increase the challenge. It also promotes collaborating with others online or within your household to help make activities more fun.
Do you have a brilliant home workout routine that uses the STEP tool? Share yours with @AllForActivity on Twitter and Activity Alliance on Facebook with the hashtag #StayInWorkOut.
The charity has also compiled a list of exercise advice, workouts, videos and activity guides to support disabled people to move more while at home. Visit the 'active at home' page and keep up to date with Activity Alliance's weekly blogs for more STEP ideas.
