In this article, we are going to explore 'why is Mobility Monday important?' in regards to archery and to help prevent injury.
So, what is Mobility Monday and why is it important for archery? Mobility Monday is a campaign that Archery GB has been running. It is to help the membership increase their mobility, movement and help prevent injury.
Mobility can help lower injury risk, increase strength, improve posture and reduce back pain. All of these are important in archery. In our sport, we tend to stand for a lot of the day, which could result in lower back pain. Being mobile and using mobility exercises, can help reduce this.
Being able to move easily will help with your archery shot. If you are more mobile, it will allow your shot to flow better and easier. If you've been unable to shoot regularly, you might find returning to shooting will cause some delayed stiffness/soreness.
When this is unchecked, this stiffness can accumulate and be to restrict your movement. This is why it is important to use assets such as the Mobility Monday videos a couple of times a week.
When doing a warm-up or cool pre/post-training/competition, look to have dynamic movements, rather than "stretches". Tom Hall from the Olympic Squad recently did a warmup Mobility Monday video specific for archery, you can see it here.
