Our instructor courses are designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver engaging and safe archery sessions, whether that's giving someone their first taste of the sport or supporting people over several weeks.

Your Instructor Award qualifies you to deliver have-a-go sessions shooting barebow (without sights) at targets up to 10m away. For instructors looking to enhance their offer and upskill, we have launched the Instructor Plus. Read on to see what you'll learn and how to book. Instructor Plus

Archery GB's Instructor Plus course is designed for instructors who aim to develop archers beyond the introductory level. This course focuses on enhancing participants' skills and knowledge, enabling them to coach archers who have already experienced a taster or have-a-go session. The course covers advanced shooting techniques, including the use of sights, safety management, session planning, and equipment maintenance, with a particular emphasis on shooting at distances up to 20m. The course will also enable instructors to work with new archers over six sessions to enable greater development.

Course objectives

  • Developing an archer's shooting form over greater distances (up to 20m) and with the use of a bow sight
  • Designing and delivering engaging and varied archery sessions (up to six sessions per archer)
  • Developing comprehensive understanding and implementation of safety protocols
  • Kit maintenance and basic repair of recurve bows and related equipment
  • Providing continuous assessment and constructive feedback to support archers' progression

The course includes both online and face-to-face components to provide a comprehensive learning experience.

Online learning

  • Overview, objectives, and expectations
  • Principles of biomechanics and equipment overview
  • Comprehensive safety measures and emergency procedures
  • Introduction to bow and arrow maintenance and basic repairs

Face-to-face learning

  • Detailed instruction and practical drills for shooting at greater distances
  • Techniques for using sights to improve accuracy
  • Best practice for setting up and supervising a range
  • Methods for teaching, session planning, and adaptability
  • Hands-on practice for maintaining and repairing recurve bows

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for archery instructors who have completed the Archery GB Instructor Award and are looking to advance their skills to support the development of intermediate archers.

How is the course delivered and how long is it?

The course is delivered over one day, with a combination of pre-course online learning and face-to-face practical sessions.

Participants will be assessed continuously throughout the course on their practical skills, coaching techniques, and understanding of safety and equipment maintenance. Constructive feedback will be provided to help participants improve and succeed. Upon successful completion, participants will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to effectively coach archers at greater distances, ensuring their ongoing development and enjoyment of the sport.

The Instructor Plus Award will be added to your Sport:80 profile and you will receive a downloadable certificate. 

How much does it cost and how do I book a place?
