2019 recurve youth selection policy published

Archery GB Performance has published the recurve youth selection policy for the 2019 World Youth Championships and the European Youth Cup 2nd leg.

The compound youth selection policy will follow shortly.

Athletes seeking to represent Great Britain will be required to successfully progress through three stages of selection designed to test their capability to succeed on the international stage.

Following the publication of an advisory notice in June, junior and cadet athletes have been striving to achieve the official selection scores in order to gain an invitation to take part in the 2019 selection process. These scores do not constitute a minimum level for consideration for nomination or selection, only a minimum standard set for athletes to engage in the process. The published scores can be found on page six of the recurve and compound selection policies.

Stage 1

From today, recurve athletes will be able to submit up to ten scores to a score tracker. Compound athletes will be asked to submit one 50m score and two head to head scores. Archery GB recommend that athletes submit their top scores, even if these are below the minimum score threshold. AGB are keen to track all athletes' development and the selection policy allows for athletes to be invited to join the process at a later date if they can demonstrate internationally competitive score levels.

Recurve athletes can access their score tracker here.

Compound athletes should email jon.nott@archerygb.org for access to their score tracker.

Stage 2

Athletes who have achieved the minimum scores will be invited to participate in Stage 2 to determine which athletes will be nominated to represent Great Britain in 2019. In 2019, Stage 2 will contain two phases, linking the senior and youth selection processes.

2019 is an exceptionally busy competition year with paramount importance given to achieving qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The senior GB team will be attending a full schedule of competitions throughout the first half of the year, overlapping with the usual selection process time frame for youth internationals. In parallel with lots of other countries, more and more GB youngsters are starting to contend for places in the senior team. Archery GB takes its duty of care towards its athletes very seriously and is mindful of the increased physical and mental pressure during competition season. To optimise performance and safeguard athlete welfare, athletes selected for the GB senior team will also be nominated for the World Youth Championships and European Youth Cup 2nd leg if eligible. Following completion of the senior selection process, all remaining places for the World Youth Championships and European Youth Cup 2nd leg will be contended for at the youth selection shoots outlined in the policy.

Athlete Pathway Manager, Cait Leach, said: Â"2019 is set to be a very exciting competition year with major events at senior and junior level. As well as world class shooting, we are looking for athletes to seize the opportunity to learn and challenge themselves to optimise their performance behaviours, team dynamics and competition management.”

Stage 3

Once athletes have been selected and ratified, they will be expected to maintain or improve standards during Stage 3 and demonstrate the winning behaviours of a champion.
