Archery GBÂ’s 2017 Youth Festival

The 13-year old defended the title she won in 2016.

Imogen Newby took gold in the recurve cub women's competition at Archery GB's 2017 Youth Festival, beating Penny Healey 6-2 in the final on the Orangery at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

Â"I'm so happy, ecstatic”, said Newby, who was caught on camera dancing and smiling in between sets during the match. Â"It was close and Penny is such a great friend. I'm still shaking a little bit!”

Newby opened with a 27 to Healey's 25, then Healy tied the match with a perfect 30.

Â"I just thought, ‘right, just got to write this off, get my shot off as best as I can and get it as close as possible, and then just bring it back on the next end',” said Newby.

Up 4-2 after the third, both archers opened the last set with a 10. Healey shot a nine and an eight to close; Newby a 10 and an eight to take the match, 6-2.

Winner Imogen was back on the field for the next match as coach for Joshua Smith, who took bronze in the recurve cub men's event.

Â"I feel really good, because I got 3 medals,” Smith said. Â"She [Imogen] was in the team gold medal match with me; she's nice and comforting and fun”.

Harry Wright won the recurve cub men's gold medal by beating Samuel Birdsall, 6-2, and Shaimaa Abdelhalim finished third in the women's.
