It is with great sadness that, due to circumstances beyond our control, we were unable to send a full team out to Canada to compete at the World Archery Youth Championships.
Performance Director, Mark Beecher, said the following regarding the strikes.
As the situation with Air Canada continued to evolve over the course of Friday 15 and Saturday 16 August, and as we exhausted every single available opportunity to find a workable solution, it became increasingly clear that only a small number of archers and support staff would be able to travel. Subsequently, we had to make the very difficult decision to select only the following archers to travel, based on minimum qualifying scores and demonstrable international success at both junior and senior level.
Penny Healey
Archie Bromley
Alex Sillitoe-Price
Patience Wood
Hallie Boulton
Luke Davis
The management team and I want to reiterate to those who have unfortunately been unable to travel, that you have absolutely earned the right to be on a plane and ultimately competing amongst the best young archers in the world. You are all firmly within that peer group, you should be incredibly proud of yourselves, and we are so sorry that we could not find a solution for you.
You represent a group of young archers with exceptional promise, and we have absolutely no doubt that you will all progress to perform and win at multiple international competitions in the future.
Keep working hard, stay focused, and good things will happen.
