An Update to the Rules of Shooting

The Rules of Shooting have been updated and there are changes to age groups and round names.

The latest version of the Rules are available here (the changes have been highlighted in blue), but we’ve recapped the main changes for you below.

Rule:

308 (b) (i) An archer may compete in a junior age group where the tournament take place up to and in the year of their birthday prior to the limit on the category. (e.g., if they turned 17 in a year, they can compete in an U18 category, but they cannot turn 18 in the year)

(ii)An archer may compete in the 50+ division when the competition takes place in the year of their 50th Birthday and thereafter.

Field:

Field age group distances will be updated in the next few weeks.

In future, national championships, records and classifications will be based on these age groups. Event organisers may use additional age groups such as U10 or 65+, but, for consistency, these should adhere to the same ‘year of birth' rule. Age groups and records will be reviewed throughout the year to make sure they are fit for purpose.

Classifications

Classifications will be updated to reflect the new recommended rounds. These will be published in November ready for the 2023 outdoor season.

Unfortunately, we are unable to change the indoor classifications for 2022.

Rounds and Records

The Rounds and Records - Age Group Validation document in the Resources section of this page shows the new records and recommended rounds available to each age group.

All current records will continue to stand. New records can be claimed throughout the season but will not be awarded until after the last outdoor and indoor competitions of the season, due to the anticipated high volume of records claims.

Only these rounds or rounds of a longer distance for an age group will be eligible for records. For example, an under 12 shooting a National 40 can claim a record but an under 15 shooting a National 30 cannot.

Email competitions@archerygb.org if you have any questions or need help understanding the changes.
