Archery GB announces team for the Hyundai World Archery Championships

Archery GB is pleased to announce the 12 athletes selected to represent Great Britain at the 2019 Hyundai World Archery Championships in S-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands 10-16 June.

A total of 610 athletes from 92 countries have registered, which is the most athletes in the event's 88-year history.

In keeping with the selection document, the following recurve athletes have been selected:

Recurve Women

  • Sarah Bettles
  • Naomi Folkard
  • Bryony Pitman

Recurve Men

  • Tom Hall
  • Patrick Huston
  • Alex Wise

The Recurve team will go on to represent TeamGB at the European Games and Continental Qualifying Tournament in Minsk, Belarus on 21-28 June, alongside Compound athletes Lucy Mason and Adam Ravenscroft, marking the first time Compound athletes have been part of TeamGB.

David Tillotson, Archery GB's Director of Sport commented: ┬"The Recurve squad is experienced and are all proven international medallists. We go into these events on the back of a stronger and more structured training programme and with the strongest depth of scores across men and women that GB archery has ever had. The challenge of winning medals and securing Olympic places will be immense but we are capable and committed to rising to the task.┬ö

The World Championships act as an Olympic qualifier and will determine the first qualifying places for Tokyo Olympic Games. Great Britain can take a maximum of six qualifying places, three men and three women's places. The top eight Recurve teams qualify spots for three athletes, along with the top four individuals from nations that are not already qualified in the team event. Places are won for Great Britain and are not assigned to a specific athlete.

The Compound team was announced at the end of April and is as follows:

Compound Women

  • Layla Annison
  • Ella Gibson
  • Lucy Mason

Compound Men

  • Neil Bridgewater
  • James Mason
  • Adam Ravenscroft

Jon Nott Archery GB's Compound Team Manager said: ┬"This team has a strong proven track record the women's team are 50m World Record holders and are fresh from winning a bronze medal at the Antalya World Cup this weekend. The men all formed part of the European gold medal winning team in Legnica last year. Our run up to the World Championships has been really good and we have shown we are on good form and competitive. We go to Den Bosh in good spirits and belief that we will be in the hunt for medals.┬ö

The finals will be shown the BBC's digital sport platforms following an agreement signed by World Archery and the BBC at the beginning of May.

  • Saturday 15 June: Hyundai World Archery Championships, Compound finals
  • Sunday 16 June: Hyundai World Archery Championships, Recurve finals
