Important decisions were made at the 2019 World Archery Congress which met at s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands on the eve of the World Archery Para Championships and World Championships.
Archery GB's new Chair, Mark Briegel, Chief Executive Neil Armitage and International Relations Lead Hilda Gibson were at the Congress, along with representatives and proxies from 85 member associations.
The new decisions included the introduction of term limits for World Archery Executive Board and Committee positions and end of the World Indoor Championships. Barebow is also now recognised in World Archery rules as a bowstyle in target archery.
Archery GB made two presentations at Congress workshops: Hilda about para archery and Neil spoke about strategic development. There was also positive recognition for leading the bid to get archery included as an option sport in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Four Archery GB candidates were elected to World Archery Committees. Three were re-elected for a further four year term: Derrick Lovell to the Constitution and Rules Committee, Hannah Brown to the Field and 3D Committee and Pippa Britton to the Para-Archery Committee. Graham Potts was elected to the Judges Committee for a four-year term.
Looking ahead, the next World Championships will be in Yankton in 2021. Next year's World Field Championships will also be in Yankton.
