A county archery society recently organised a County Development Conference Day to positively impact its volunteers and their clubs.
Shropshire Archery Society organised the day inviting all of the county's clubs to send two or three representatives to get together with the county committee members to focus on developing archery in Shropshire.
In the morning there was sessions reviewing club development, results from the latest Customer Satisfaction Survey, information about the upcoming launch of the new OnTarget club development programme, plus a look at coaching across the county, and club coaching.
After this, time was spent reviewing the full range of county activities. Various disciplines of archery were discussed including field, target and clout, provision for different types of archer including social, beginners, novices, and competitive archers, engaging volunteers, as well as various new ideas and improvements for the future.
The afternoon workshop was all about volunteering, led by a tutor organised by Buddle (supported by Sport England) to support at both club and county level. Support on this topic is available to all clubs to all clubs here.
The county are hoping to run similar days in future, and to continue to strengthen archery across Shropshire.
Some attendees from the day fed back afterwards, one respondent said: "It's not often we get the chance to discuss areas with that number of people in the room, and the pace of the day was right."
Another attendee said: "Many thanks for organising, it was most informative and enjoyable, and the number of clubs represented was good. It was interesting to discuss what a county and a club do differently to complement each other. I would like to see more and how we can implement some of the ideas put forward."
