The Creating Inclusive Shoots webinar, led by Peter Sisson of Deer Park Archers, was a great success, bringing together 30 participants from various archery backgrounds.
The session provided valuable insights into organising inclusive competitions, covering everything from venue selection and scheduling to accessibility considerations on the day of the event.
One of the key takeaways was the importance of increasing participation opportunities for archers with disabilities. The webinar emphasised that by making small but meaningful adaptations, such as accessible scheduling, adjusted target lists, and inclusive classification options, clubs can create an environment where all archers feel welcome and supported.
Participants left the session feeling inspired to take action, with many expressing interest in developing their own inclusive shoots. The success of Deer Park Archers’ Inclusion Series served as a strong example of how these events can thrive. With a structured approach and support from Archery GB, there is hope that more clubs across the country will begin hosting similar shoots, reducing the need for archers with disabilities to travel long distances to compete.
Looking ahead, the goal is to establish a National Inclusion Series, where clubs nationwide contribute to a network of inclusive competitions. This would not only create more local opportunities for archers but also build a stronger, more connected community of inclusive archery events.
We are looking for more clubs to host inclusive competitions. If you are interested or want further support please contact gayle.pink@archerygb.org, stuart.wall@archerygb.org or petersissondpa@gmail.com
