Britain's para athletes will be bringing three gold medals and one silver back from the 5th Fazza Para Archery world ranking tournament in Dubai. They topped the medal standings and came so close to adding more.
Hazel Chaisty romped to the recurve title after qualifying in fourth spot. She then saw off Malaysia's Jennyla Kueh 6-0, Italian Veronica Floreno 6-0 and top seed Elisabetta Mijno of Italy 7-3. The gold medal showdown was against another Italian, Annalisa Rosada, and she made short work of it, winning 6-2.
Jodie Grinham secured the compound title in fine style. The third seed swept past Malaysia's Nor Jannaton Abdul Jalil 133-121, Jyoti of India 139-129 and Korea's Jeong Jin Young 136-131 before going head-to-head with Maria Andrea Virgilio. The Italian shot well, but not well enough as Jodie claimed gold with a 138-135 win.
Our third gold came courtesy of compound mixed team Nathan Macqueen and Phoebe Pine. They saw off Japan 142-134 and India in a shoot-off and faced Italy in the title match. They were in top form - and it showed as the Italians were emphatically beaten 146-132.
Recurvers Hazel and David Phillips almost made it four. They beat Latvia 6-2 and Japan 6-0 to land a gold medal showdown with top seeds Italy. It was neck and neck all the way and ended in a tie, forcing a shoot-off. Hazel and David scored 16 but the Italians hit 18, leaving the Brits with a hard-earned silver.
Shoot-offs denied two more of our athletes individual bronze medals. Top compound seed Jess Stretton defeated Lenka Kuncova of the Czech Republic 142-128 and Italy's Eleonora Sarti - who had earlier knocked out Phoebe - 137-130. But Jess's progress was halted by Virgilio, leaving her to face Jeong Jin Young in the battle for bronze. They tied on 138 and Jess shot a nine, but the Korean hit the 10. Victoria Kingstone was shooting for W1 bronze but could not catch Sarka Musilova of Russia.
Third seed David Phillips reached the recurve quarter finals after beating Malaysia's Ahmad Jaffri Jamaluddin 6-2 but he lost out in a shoot-off against Park Jun Beom of Korea.
Compounders Nathan and Jamie Harris both reached the last 16. Seventh seed Nathan beat Abdul Majid Habib of the UAE 141-118 but was edged out by Hong Kong's Ka Chuen Ngai. Jamie, ranked 16th, defeated Iraq's Sulaiman Fayyadh 139-134 but lost 132-138 to top seed Alberto Simonelli.
