It may seem a long way off, but the Tokyo Games are set to take place this summer and there's no time like the present to get behind our Olympic and Paralympic teams.
Get Set is Team GB and Paralympics GB's youth engagement programme, launched in 2012. It inspires and enables young people to: fulfil their potential and maintain healthy, active lifestyles, learn about and live the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and respect and the Paralympic Values of inspiration, determination, courage and equality, build excitement about Team GB and ParalympicsGB, using the Olympic and Paralympic Games as a hook for learning and participation.
Travel to Tokyo content includes downloadable activity packs which are designed to increase knowledge about the Games, sport and wellbeing for schools and families. The Travel to Tokyo Challenge invites families with children aged 5-11 to get active, which is more important than ever as we continue to abide by lockdown restrictions.
Travelling in teams, children follow a virtual journey to Tokyo, exploring different cities around the world, and discovering more about Japan and the Tokyo Games. The challenge offers new ways to enjoy getting active together with their families.
Schools can launch the challenge to their school community using the Starter Kit on the Get Set website (Travel to Tokyo section), and young people and their families can log activity against their team for the chance to win great prizes. Logged activity gets converted into distance, so you can track your team's journey to Tokyo on your Team Dashboard.
Eligible teachers automatically receive a free Tokyo Takeoff Pack with posters, bunting and stickers - all they need to do is Register with Get Set and log their first activity . Check the T&Cs to see if your school is eligible).
There are lots of resources to bring the challenge to life! Your active Travel Guide has fun games for each city you visit: Japanese-themed Tokyo Tens will get you active in only 10 minutes, and longer Active challenges can be set as homework. Class presentations and videos explore Japanese culture, Olympic and Paralympic athletes and the key Personal, Social, Health, and Economic topics of resilience, goal setting and mental wellbeing. A Home Learning pack is designed for families to use to get active at home.
The challenge is brought to life by Team GB athletes Laviai Nielsen (Track and Field), Helen Glover (Rowing) and Anthony Ogogo (Boxing) and Paralympians Will Bayley (Table Tennis), Natasha Baker (Dressage) and Abdi Jama (Wheelchair Basketball). They are setting their own home workouts and challenges for your class to try today!
