GB dominate the 2025 European Field Championships

With eleven medals under their belts, the team from Great Britain finish in second place in the overall medal table at the 2025 European Field Championships.

From 13-21 September, the best field archers from across the continent came together in Ksiaz-Walbrzych, Poland to see who would take European gold. The week saw champions retain their titles, new winners crowned, and a plethora of medals earned.

Bryony Pitman and Ollie Hicks were both successful in retaining their gold medals, becoming back-to-back champions of their respective categories. Bryony defeated France’s Aurelie Autret for the recurve women’s title, and Oliver Hicks beat Rohlin Ludvig from Sweden with eight points to spare in the U21 barebow men’s gold medal match. Bryony also took the recurve mixed team silver with recent World Games medallist, Patrick Huston.

Oliver said: “It feels really good. This is something I’ve been building up to all year, and I’m really pleased to come away with a gold medal again. I don’t think I’ve ever been quite so shaky on finals field, but I just kept it strong, pushed towards the middle, and managed to get them in there when I needed it.”

Compound man, Joseph Elliott, won his very first international medal, and a gold at that, alongside mixed team partner Ella Gibson. Ella then went on to take silver in the compound women’s individual competition.

Another new champion was U21 recurve woman, Emelia Hughes, who won the title at her debut European Field Championships. Isabella Bruguier, traded in her U21 compound women’s silver medal from 2024 for a gold this year.

Emelia said: “It feels surreal, it’s kind of crazy. It doesn’t feel real though, but it’s cool. This is my first international field shoot, so I didn’t really expect much. I knew I wanted to do well and I knew there was potential for a medal, but I didn’t want to put too much pressure on it. It paid off.”

Isabella said: “I didn’t expect this, going into this week. I hoped, and I’ve been working really hard to get to this point. It was an amazing match and both of us shot really well, and I’m very happy to now have gold individually.”
