GB youth team win 10 medals in Sion

The GB youth team secure 10 medals at the European Youth Cup

Finlay Clark earned himself the gold medal for the compound men’s under 18 division. He defeated Israel’s Paz Carmi with 5 points to spare, 141-136.

Finlay said: "I was a little nervous at first, but Philippa my coach helped me prepare for the match and things settled down after the first arrow. This is my third time representing GB at the European Youth Cup and it is always a fun event meeting archers from all over Europe. I was aiming for a medal and I am over the moon it was gold today."

For the under 21 compound men, Luke Davis won the gold medal on his first international trip. He was one point behind the Netherland’s Stef Willems going into the last end, but a perfect 30 from Luke earned him the win, 143-142.

Teammates Patience Wood and Hallie Boulton had a very close match for the compound under 21 women’s bronze. In the end, it was Patience who came out victorious, winning 144-142.

Louise Bassett narrowly missed out on the gold for the compound women’s under 18, shooting 132 to Sarah Schindlerova’s 134 to earn her the silver.

Compound Teams

The compound under 18 mixed team, comprising of Chloe Scott and Alfie Ridding, won their gold medal match 146-144 against the team from Israel.

Luke Davis and Sinead Byrne shooting for the under 21 mixed team earned a silver medal, narrowly missing out to the team from Italy with 153-148. Also the under 21 women’s team Chloe A'Bear, Hallie Boulton and Patience Wood, brought home the silver following their match against the French archers.

Recurve Teams

Up first for the recurves was the under 18 mixed team bronze final, where Megan Havers and Max Oakley won 6-2 over Azerbaijan.

The under 18 men’s team, Archie Bromley, Max Oakley and Midas Tang, took Germany all the way to a shoot-off. GB's 28 was better than the Germans’ 24 to take the gold medal.

Against the French, the under 21 women’s team made up of Megan Costall, Charlotte Hempsall and Shauna Punjabi sadly lost 6-0, but they brought home the silver medal.
