At the last event before the Paralympics, GB return home with six medals from the European Para Cup in Czech Republic.
Compound open woman Jodie Grinham earned four medals to her name at the live finals, including the individual title. She ranked in first place after qualification, and in the gold medal match she faced second ranked Fatemeh Hemmati from Iran. After opening with a perfect 30 to Hemmati’s 29, Jodie was able to maintain this one-point advantage all the way through the match, securing a 144-143 win.
Talking to World Archery Europe, Jodie said: "I was quite nervous throughout to be honest, but I knew that if I started strong and kept the pressure on then I would be able to do it. She [Hemmati] is a great competitor, so I knew it would be difficult. The fact that we have a world level competition here in Czech just before Paris is phenomenal."
Jodie had her second finals appearance with compound women open doubles partner, Phoebe Paterson Pine. The duo ranked in second position after qualification going into the head-to-head eliminations. In the fight for gold, the GB women faced India’s first ranked team. They displayed some very strong shooting, but unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough to defeat India who took the win, 157-151.
Awards were also given out to athletes who made the podium for the combined event. This is based on points athletes earned over the two stages of the 2024 European Para Cup, ranking them as overall medallists.
