The inaugural UK Sport's PLx awards dinner took place last night (26 November) at the Principal Hotel in Manchester.
The purpose of the awards is to recognise the individuals, teams and sports who have made a significant contribution to the GB High Performance system. The Innovation Award recognises the importance of innovation in enabling significant improvements in High Performance Sport.
Archery GB's Paralympic Technician, Kieran Carr has played a crucial role in challenging the thinking and assumptions in driving improvements in Para Archery. Kieran's ability to turn creative ideas into real value on the field of play, allows athletes to compete with bespoke equipment designed for them.
UK Sport's spokesperson commented: Â"For this award there was a clear outstanding winner and the judging panel decided not to shortlist.” A testament to the crucial work Kieran is doing.
Kieran has also been using his expertise in adapting equipment to educate coaches around the UK and internationally. Kieran is part of a small team of experts who are leading the education of coaches in adapting equipment for para athletes in Africa. In collaboration with UK Sport and World Archery, Archery GB is working with African member Associations to ensure more African countries are represented at the 2024 and 2028 Paralympic Games. The aim of the seminars are to give delegates the confidence to teach and coach archery to people of all abilities, which includes how to make adaptions to equipment to help overcome any disability.
