Team GB archers Megan Havers and Tom Hall finished ninth individually at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
On the finals weekend of the archery at the Paris 2024 Games, Megan Havers and Tom Hall secured their places in the top nine.
Megan faced the first ranked archer and new world record holder, Korea’s Lim Sihyeon, in the 1/8 round. The two women split the set points in the first end, scoring 28 apiece. Unfortunately, Megan was unable to gain more points on the Korean archer, resulting in a 7-1 win to the Olympic champion.
“Starting off with a 28 really helped me. Even taking the set point off her is an achievement for me as she ranked first and I'm ranked 49th. I wanted to put up a fight in that match. I think I did that.
Finishing where I am and shooting how I have has just made me hungry for the next Olympics. I can't wait to see what four years brings for me. I've come into this whole Olympics absolutely blind to what it would be like. I feel like I handled it ok. But now I know for all the rest of my competitions how I can handle it.”
The sixteen-year-old will be collecting her GCSE results this August, following her incredibly successful Olympic debut. She has got a place on an elite athlete course at Loughborough College which is all online, so she’ll be able to train five days a week and also study from home simultaneously.
Second-time Olympian, Tom Hall, competed in the 1/8 round against third ranked German archer, Florian Unruh. Tom was able to earn three set points against Unruh through five ends of shooting, however it was Unruh who took the win 7-3.
Tom told us: “It just comes down to the level you're shooting at, and the consistency you have. It's very few arrows to try and demonstrate what you're capable of. It's quite difficult. I'll have to sit down and have a look at it to see if there's anything that I really want to take away and work on.”
