The recurve elimination matches at the 2023 Antalya World Cup saw Penny Healey shoot her way into Saturday’s live semi-final.
Fresh off the back of her Grand Prix win at Lilleshall, Penny Healey entered this event ready to fight.
After qualification the archers shot their 1/64 round, and Penny won 6-0 against Anne Abernathy from the Virgin Islands. In her next match, the 9th world-ranked Brit only let one set point slip to Türkiye’s Kose, 7-1. She beat 5th world ranked American Kaufhold 6-2, and then Lei Chien-Ying 7-3. In the match that would decide if she got into Saturday’s final, Penny faced China’s Qiu Muyan. Going into the last end Penny was 5-2 up, and a 27 to her opponent’s 26 was enough to win her the match.
Penny said: “It feels amazing. It’s great to be making home proud as well as my parents and my family and my teammates. I shot great. I was very nervous, and I didn’t think that last one was going to go inside the ten. But a ten was what I needed, and I did it.”
