The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme is celebrating 15 years of helping our brightest young athletes get the very best from their academic and sporting careers without having to choose between the two.
During that time it has invested £40 million in supporting 6,000 athletes from 73 sports and disciplines - including archery.
Our young athletes receiving help at the moment are:
Henry said: Â"I have only been on the TASS program for a year. However, in that time it has become an instrumental part of my training. Regular gym sessions with a professional trainer has given more structure to my strength and conditioning programme. Also, by having a professional psychologist, I can now understand my own mental game better than I would have otherwise. TASS has been an incredible experience for me.”
And Nicole said: Â"The TASS programme has been a huge part of the progress I have made this year, the strength and conditioning sessions are tailored to me and have addressed all aspects of my physical training in which I have seen so much improvement. I really appreciate the support that TASS has given me to improve my lifestyle, I always look forward to going to sessions!”
One of TASS's real success stories is Danielle Brown. She received support from the scheme in 2005-6 and went on to become the world number one, a double Paralympic champion and win team gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. She is now a motivational speaker, trainer and coach. You can find out more about her TASS experience here.
London will play host to the TASS 15th anniversary reception on June 26 with special guests descending on the capital to join athletes, alumni and staff in celebrating a significant milestone in the scheme's ongoing contribution to the country's sporting future.
Â"We want our best young athletes to feel as if nothing is beyond them - on and off the field,” said its National Director Guy Taylor. Â"With support from Sport England - and as a part of the SportsAid family - we're confident that the TASS partnership between athletes, education institutions and sports will continue to help the next generation of rising stars to thrive.
Â"The dual career approach should be encouraged and celebrated. We have come a long way in 15 years and we intend to go much further in the next 15 years.”
