The new 2023 winners of the 50+ Championships were named this weekend in Oxfordshire.
On Sunday 6 August the 50+ Championships took place at Wallingford Sports Park in Oxfordshire, bringing together 120 archers to make this the largest rendition of the event yet. This year’s winners were crowned after a full day of shooting and head-to-head matches.
Recurve man John Prior remains the only undefeated archer at the 50+ champs, with his third consecutive 1st seed and gold medal. The gold match was a repeat of last year, with Allan Horne in second. Last year's bronze medallist Paul Jagger was edged out this year by Phil Hinckley.
The closest event of the day saw Shai Qureshi take the compound men's top spot with 145-144 against Colin Williams. Pauline Burfitt, now into her 70s, remains the compound woman to beat. She seeded first and won the gold again this year after being edged to silver in 2022.
Barebow brothers Mark and Phil Shore took first and second place, with Mark taking a 6-0 win for the gold.

Tournament Organiser, Marc Tamlyn said: "As our third year, this marks the end of our tenure at WCA. We have thoroughly enjoyed hosting this great shoot and hope that whoever takes it on next year will have as much fun as we have. Well done to all the archers who took part, especially those who shot all weekend and survived the downpour on Saturday. A huge thank you to all the people who made the event possible - judges, field crew, scoring team, catering and everyone else."
