The recurve men’s team come home with a silver medal from the Spring Arrows Archery Tournament in Türkiye.
For the first international outdoors competition of 2024, GB’s recurve team come out with a bang at the Spring Arrows Archery Tournament in Antalya, Türkiye, in preparation for the 2024 season ahead.
The recurve men – Alex Wise, Tom Hall, and Conor Hall – ranked a respectable eighth place with a combined score of 1991 and they continued to fight through their matches, from the 1/8 round to the gold final. Along the way, they defeated the first ranked team from France in a shoot-off, arguably the trickiest match on paper.
Against the second ranked team from Italy, GB matched them almost arrow for arrow, but it wasn’t quite enough. The men returned home with the silver medal after a 6-2 finish in the Italia’s favour. This, the first medal of their outdoor season, has kicked off the team’s year and their hopes for the competitions ahead. In an Olympic year, every point matters when it comes to earning those all-important quota places.
Alex said: “This is the first time we’ve shot as a team, and we got to a gold medal match at a world ranking event. It’s just the best start to the season; to boost our world ranking to try and get closer to those Olympic spots that we’re gunning for.”
