Last Saturday (12 March) saw more than 90 students from 12 universities compete in the B.U.T.T.S Indoor Championships at Loughborough University.
The B.U.T.T.S League is the premier student archery league in the UK, with 13 clubs from the East and West Midlands competing at the highest levels of national and student archery. Slick organisation by the B.U.T.T.S League organiser and hardworking volunteers from Loughborough University Archery Club pulled off a very successful event for novices and experienced archers, hosted in great facilities. After a tough couple of years through Covid, it is so encouraging to see how well university archery is bouncing back.
Megan Purchase from University of Warwick Archery Club (pictured below) was shooting at the event and is also currently training to become an Archery GB Session Coach (Level 1). Other student archers might consider training as well, and could then help with the next round of beginners' courses in the new academic year.

Megan says: Â"I'm really enjoying Archery GB's Session Coach workshops - our club coach approached me and asked if I would like to consider coach training, and I have found the course content really enforces the approach our club coach takes. I only started taking the online modules in February, and want to do them as soon as I can. It's easy to do so as I can fit them in online around my other commitments. I'm finding it is helping me as an archer, as well as developing my coaching skills.”
The archers are now preparing for the BUCS Indoor Finals on 19 March hosted at Warwick University. You can read more about university archery in the spring issue of Archery UK magazine.
