World Archery 900 round added to AGB Rules of Shooting

As of 1 July 2025, the World Archery 900 round has been officially added to the Archery GB Rules of Shooting.

The World Archery 900 round has existed for many years. Consisting of 30 arrows on a 122cm target-face at 60m, 50m, and 40m, it is more accessible than a 70m round or 1440 round, being shot at shorter distances and requiring less time. Unlike 720s or 1440s however, the rules do not include other variants of the round at other distances.

We have seen the 900 round growing in popularity around the country over the last few years, including events in multiple home nations and even one county championship using the format. A number of these events have also started running variants of the WA 900 round at shorter distances for younger or less experienced archers. When looking for a suitable medium-duration metric round for the Junior National Outdoor Championships, we quickly came to the conclusion that these rounds would be ideally suited.

Four new rounds are today adopted into the AGB Rules of Shooting. Each round features 30 arrows on a 122cm target at each of three distances. The new longer round is called the 900-70, shot at 70/60/50m and is aimed at adult and U21 archers. The WA 900 round remains at 60/50/40m, with records available for all age-groups. The shorter rounds are the 900-50 (50/40/30), allowing records claims up to U16s and U15s; the 900-40 (40/30/20), for U14s; and the 900-30 (30/20/10), for U12s.

Archers of any age group can of course always shoot any shorter or longer round where it matches their ability, but should recognise that these may not be eligible for classifications or records.

To support these new rounds, we are also today releasing updated handicap and classification tables for all bowstyles, which include scores for these new rounds. All 900 rounds now have UK record status for the recommended age groups, and records on the new rounds can be claimed at record status competitions shot from 1 July 2025 onwards.

To further reinforce the establishment of these new rounds, they will also be included in a new AGB badge scheme to be launched imminently. Watch this space for further details.
