Mark Briegal, Archery GB's Chair, said: "2024 was certainly a busy year in archery. At the high-performance end of AGB, the Olympics and Paralympics saw our world class athletes perform at the highest level and demonstrate the success of our world class programme. Everyone performed so well and I was personally delighted to be able to be at the Paralympics to watch our Paralympians, Jodie and Nathan, win medals.

"All of our athletes started on a beginner's course at their local club or possibly picked up a bow on holiday. The work carried out by our volunteer coaches at clubs up and down the country is remarkable and feeds into the success of the high-performance programme.

"Closer to home, we have been working on a number of projects to improve the service we give our members. Change is not easy and, to paraphrase the old saying, “You can’t please all of the people all of the time”. This is particularly true with 40,000 members, over 800 clubs, plus counties, regions and home nations. We are fully aware that some of the membership changes have not been well received by all our members - some members loved the changes and others absolutely hated them. We have listened to the feedback and have embarked upon further consultation to make these new systems so that they work for members.

"Running alongside the membership project has been a project to look at the interaction between clubs, counties, regions and home nations. We want to work with all these groups to ensure that everybody is clear what happens at what level and to make sure that we support our members in the tasks that they are fulfilling.

"As ever I want to thank the Board for their support and guidance and the whole AGB team at Lilleshall and around the country. Particular thanks must also go to that army of unsung volunteers across the UK who make archery happen. Here’s to an even more successful 2025."

AGM agenda

Archery GB's 2025 AGM will be held online. It will be restricted to the formal elements required by our Articles of Association. The meeting will be held to pass the resolutions to:

  • Re-appoint the auditors
  • Fill the President vacancy

All eligible members will be given the opportunity to vote online, or via post and their votes will be carried forward to the meeting.

2024 was certainly a busy year in Archery. Tom Duggan is leaving AGB after a hugely successful 7½ years in our performance programmes and I want to thank Tom for all he has done and wish him every success at Paddle UK. The success of our world class athletes is down to their skill and commitment, but they are supported by a hugely professional team who create the environment for them to perform so well. Many thanks to everybody who contributed to their success. Our compound and field programmes have also delivered amazing results on the international stage; congratulations to all.

All of our athletes started on a beginner’s course at their local club or possibly picked up a bow on holiday. The work carried out by our volunteer coaches at clubs up and down the country is remarkable and feeds into the success of the high-performance programme.

Closer to home, we have been working on a number of projects to improve the service we give our members. We will not impose anything that is rejected by a majority of members. Arran Coggan and his membership team are working hard to get this right.

Everything does not yet run as smoothly as we would like.  We are constantly trying to achieve a lot with limited resources. The senior team of Ruth, Wendy and Arran are being pushed to introduce significant change and support our members. Their teams are working hard too; everyone at AGB is working to improve the sport we all love. We may have our disagreements on the best ways to do that, but can I make a plea for everyone please to treat each other with respect.

Running alongside the membership project has been a project to look at the interaction between clubs, counties, regions and home nations. We want to work with all these groups to ensure that everybody is clear what happens at what level and to make sure that we support our members in the tasks that they are fulfilling. Additionally, our safeguarding specialists are working hard to ensure that everyone involved in archery is safe. I hope that you and your clubs never need these services, but if you do, we are here to help and support you. Making our sport safe for everyone must be our top priority.

We are looking at further changes to our competition strategy. We know that not everybody is able to compete where and when they want, and we are looking at ways to improve that.

As ever I want to thank the Board for their support and guidance and the whole AGB team at Lilleshall and around the country. Particular thanks must also to that army of unsung volunteers across the UK who make archery happen.

Here’s to an even more successful 2025.

Kind regards

Mark Briegal

Chair

Your questions answered

At our AGM we invite our members to send in their questions for us to answer. We are a membership organisation so it is vital that archers have a voice and can hold us to account. You can also ask questions by typing them into the chat box during the AGM. Questions submitted in advance and during the meeting will be answered as soon as possible in the form of a written article which will be published on our website. Please note, we will take the time to consult with different members of staff to ensure as detailed an answer as possible so answers will not be published immediately.

If you have further questions after the AGM, please contact us at enquiries@archerygb.org
