Archery GB Legacy Coordinator wins city community award

Jamila Bi, Archery GB's Legacy Coordinator, has won a community award for the work she has done to introduce 6,000 people to archery across the West Midlands.

Jamila's win comes hot on the heels of her success at the recent Birmingham Awards where the club she set up, Crescent Archers, won Sporting Initiative of the Year. That win follows a Highly Commended award at the British Muslim Awards for Archery GB's Project Rimaya which works to engage Muslim communities in archery.

The latest win is for Sport Birmingham's 2024 Community Celebration Awards, which recognise the outstanding contributions of individuals and organisations that have made a positive impact on the community through sport and physical activity.

From hundreds of inspiring nominations, an expert panels selected 30 finalists who were honoured at the awards evening on Thursday at Edgbaston Stadium, including Jamila who won the Inclusion Award.

Jamila was appointed as a Legacy Coordinator to help achieve Archery GB's aspirations of enriching lives through archery and she has proved to be a hugely positive role model for archery in the West Midlands.

Her hard work has resulted in over 6,000 people experiencing archery, in most cases for the first time, across the West Midlands, since she started on 1 July 2022. As well as setting up a club, Crescent Archers, she delivers the StreetGames HAF Programme (Holiday, Activity and Food) focused on archery delivered across all school holidays in partnership with Bring it On Brum.

Gayle Pink, Archery GB's Head of Participation, said: "This is Jamila’s second award win in the space of a couple of weeks. It's an amazing achievement just to be shortlisted, let alone to win.

"It's amazing kudos for Jamila, and raises the profile of archery, Archery GB and Project Rimaya. A massive well done Jamila! I am so proud of you and the amazing work you do!"
