Archery GB is excited to be launching two new courses to enable instructors to support new archers to shoot further and to help young people start their careers in archery.
Following feedback from instructors and archery activity partners, we will be introducing Instructor Plus and a Young Instructor Award. The Instructor Plus course gives instructors the tools to offer a longer programme of activity for archers over further distances and with the use of a sight, while the Young Instructor Award is tailored for 14-16-year-olds, offering them a comprehensive introduction to archery instruction and holistic development, so they can support instructors as range assistants.
Ryan Grewcock, Archery GB's Head of Learning and Development, said: "Our range of instructor courses are designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver engaging and safe archery sessions, whether that's giving someone their first taste of the sport or supporting people over several weeks. We are particularly stoked to offer new courses that cater to different needs and skill levels. With our courses and the Archery GB Instructor Subscription, you'll benefit from continuous professional development, annual competency checks, and a strong connection to the archery community."
Here is an overview of the new training we have on offer.
Take the next step in your archery instructor career with Archery GB's Instructor Plus.
Your Instructor Award qualifies you to deliver have-a-go sessions shooting barebow (without sights) at targets up to 10m away. For instructors looking to enhance their offer and upskill, we have launched the Instructor Plus.
The course is delivered over one day, with a combination of pre-course online learning and face-to-face practical sessions.
The first course will take place at Tandridge Archers, in Kent on Sunday 28 September from 9am-5pm. Click the button below to book.
More courses will be added soon so keep an eye on our Course Finder and search 'Instructor Plus'.
This course provides the same comprehensive content as the Archery GB Instructor Award but is tailored to ensure young participants get the most out of their learning experience. Upon qualifying, participants can become range assistants, and when they reach the age of 17, they can upgrade to the full Instructor Award using the Archery GB Instructor Subscription Competency Check.
The course is delivered over two days and includes both theoretical and practical components, with delivery methods tailored to young learners. It is ideal for young people aged 14-16 who are interested in becoming qualified archery instructors and have little or no prior experience in archery.
The first course has already taken place at the Performance Archery Centre, at Lilleshall with more courses being added to the Course Finder soon.
To find a course near you, head on over to our course finder and search 'Young Instructor Award' or 'Instructor Plus'. If there are no courses available in your area, email instructors@archerygb.org to be informed when new courses are arranged.
