The archers going to the European Games in Kraków, Poland on behalf of Team GB this June have been announced
The European Games is one of the largest continental multi-sport games there is. Around 7000 athletes competing in 29 sports from 48 nations will come together at this prestigious event. The Games is also an official Continental Qualifying Tournament for Paris 2024, which is a vital aspect of the competition for our recurve athletes hoping to earn their places in the upcoming Olympics.
Olympic Performance Manager Rikki Bingham said: “The European Games is the first opportunity to win quota spots for Paris 2024 in the individual and mixed team events. It is also the only other event which runs its format the same way as the Olympics, so it gives us lots of opportunity to learn and prepare for next year. It’s also great to have compound as a part of Team GB at this multi-sport event.”
The team representing Great Britain at the European Games:
The recurve women earned their place as a team at the recent European Grand Prix at Lilleshall this April. As for the recurve men, their spot was guaranteed after their 4th place team finish at the European Championships last year.
Going to Krakow along with our recurves will be compound woman Ella Gibson. Her individual spot was also earned in Germany last June at the European Championships.
In the past, compound archers have had the opportunity to compete at only a handful of multi-sport events including the Commonwealth Games, which the compound men and women attended with great success. So to have a compound archer representing Team GB at this tournament is a large step for the discipline.
