Archery GB to expand coaching team ahead of Paris Games

Following the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, Archery GB undertook a coaching review to give us the best chance of success in this next Games cycle and beyond.

Now that the review has concluded we are able to share the new structure including the creation of 4 new roles which will be advertised shortly.

The coaching review process was facilitated by UK Sport and involved a series of workshops, individual interviews and athlete input through the Culture Health Check process. All of the coaches who had been involved within the Olympic and Paralympic coaching teams during the Tokyo cycle were engaged in the process as well as other senior members of the Performance programme.

The review had two key focusses: to develop a consistent performance coaching brand by defining what World Class Performance Archery coaching looks like and to define the operational model/structure for coaching within the WCP.

The review identified two key themes around ‘Coaching Resource' and ‘Coaching Leadership'.

In order to address these, a new coaching structure across the WCP is being put in place from April 2022. The new structure will increase our coaching resource across Performance Archery with a focus both on direct athlete support; as well as how coaches are developed and supported to enhance the impact of coaching on athlete progress.

Within this new structure, the role of AGB National Coach will no longer exist. Richard Priestman has decided not to consider the new roles within the structure and therefore has taken redundancy effective from the start of April.

The programme and athletes owe Richard a debt of gratitude for the hard work he has put into the programme since he came back to AGB before Rio and we wish him well in his next endeavours.”

Following the Tokyo Games, Alberto Zagami left the Olympic programme to join Brazil and Paralympic Coach Rikki Bingham took on a new role as Performance Programme Manager where she is driving the alignment of the Olympic, Paralympic and Pathway programmes.

Andrea Gales and Charlotte Burgess' will be taking on two of the five Performance Coach positions in the new structure and will continue their focus on the Paralympic Programme.
